OLYMPIC TORCH

Posted: December 2, 2009

Friday, November 27th 120 students traveled to James M. Hill high school for what may be a once in a lifetime experience. The Olympic torch passed through Miramichi, and the students of NSER had  the opportunity to attend the ceremony.  The day began with live entertainers from the Miramichi, including local school choirs.  One elementary group sang “I Gotta Feeling”, which really excited the spectators, an estimated 4000,  and raised the anticipation for the arrival of the torch to an all time high.  The two main sponsors, Coca Cola and RBC, also had entertainers:  professional acrobats and drummers really amazed the crowd.   As students approached the track, Canada flags were passed out, and they had the opportunity to purchase Official Olympic clothing and souvenirs.  People crowded around the track as Mark Noel, a teacher in District 16, carried the torch to the stage where the fire was lit.  Despite inclement weather, the community celebrated with great enthusiasm and National pride.  It will be a day Miramichers never forget.   By: Jenna M.
