On Thursday morning, NSER's Juno Beach students were at the Via Rail terminal in Miramichi for a ceremony commemorating the 75th anniversary of D-Day and the Battle of Normandy. The Boots of Remembrance ceremonies began in March on Canada's west coast as soldiers' combat boots were placed onto the train at dozens of stops all across Canada. These boots symbolize the thousands of troops who went overseas to fight for freedom and peace.
Our journey of remembrance began on the very platform soldiers from the North Shore Regiment left from. Next Thursday, we leave for Amsterdam and on June 6, we will stand on Juno Beach with 150 students and staff from Anglophone North.
