Terry Fox Humanitarian Award - Applications open Nov. 1

Eligibility Criteria

Terry Fox Humanitarian Awards are open to students of all abilities.

To be considered for the Award, applicants must be:

  • In good academic standing.
  • Canadian citizens or landed immigrants.
  • Students graduating from secondary (high) school or students completing their first year of CÉGEP or students who have completed secondary (high) school
  • Involved in voluntary humanitarian activities (for which they have not been compensated).
  • Planning to or are already studying towards their first university degree or diploma at a Canadian post-secondary institution, or entering their 2nd year of CÉGEP in the upcoming academic year.

Terry Fox Award Recipients are eligible to receive the Award until they graduate with their first university degree or diploma (for a maximum of four years), provided they maintain satisfactory academic standing and a standard of humanitarian work and personal conduct which, in the opinion of the Board of Directors, justifies the award.

Value

The maximum value of the award is $28,000, dispersed over four (4) years. A stipend of $7,000 is issued directly to the institution each year in two installments of $3,500, one in September and one in January.

We love to see NBCC students following in their family member's footsteps. If you're an NBCC alumnus, and you have a family member (child, grandchild, or parent of an alum) currently enrolled in an NBCC program, they are eligible to apply for the NBCC Alumni Family Scholarship.

This Scholarship has been established to support and encourage the next wave of NBCC alumni members while giving back to the NBCC Alumni family. We are pleased to award four scholarships annually to family members of past NBCC graduates.

Four $1,000 NBCC Alumni Family Scholarships will be awarded to current NBCC Students each year.

NBCC Alumni provides these Scholarships as a benefit and a gesture of appreciation to our alumni and future alumni.

To be eligible for the Scholarship, applicants must:

  • Be the family member1 of an NBCC Alumni (family members of NBCC staff are not eligible);
  • Be enrolled in an NBCC program for the current academic year2, with a focus on their previous term grades;
  • Have demonstrated community/volunteer service;
  • Maintain good academic standing;
  • Submit their most recent NBCC term transcript;
  • Have a minimum of 85% average or higher on their most recent NBCC term transcript;
  • Submit a brief essay about what it means to follow in their parent's/grandparent's footsteps at NBCC.

Selection Process

There will be two NBCC Alumni Family Scholarship Selection Periods.

Winter Application Window - Two $1,000 Scholarships - Applications are open from December 15 to February 15.

Spring Application Window - Two $1,000 Scholarships - Applications are open from April 1 to May 31

  • Nominations will be requested twice per year, with deadlines of February 15 & May 31.
  • Nomination forms and submission instructions will be available via the NBCC Alumni and NBCC website.
  • The selection committee will consist of an NBCC Alumni member, the NBCC Alumni Coordinator, and the NBCC Alumni Administrative Assistant.
  • The committee will review the applications and make a recommendation to the VP of Engagement & Experience by February 28.

Recognition

  • The selected recipients will receive the award at their relevant campus.
  • Parents/Grandparents of the award recipients will be invited to present the award when possible.
  • Recipient stories may be featured on the NBCC website and social media.
  • Confirmation of current student enrollment will be required prior to awarding the Scholarship.

Value

  • Four scholarships valued at $1,000 each will be awarded annually.
  • Two $1,000 scholarships in the winter application period & two $1,000 scholarships in the spring application period.
  • The funds for the scholarship are generated from revenues earned annually by the NBCC Alumni Office.

U.N.B. SCHOLARSHIP

VALUE: Announced annually. Average value $1000 / year.

TERM: Four (4) years.

CRITERIA: 1. Applicant must be a Scotsman, Scotswoman, or be of Scottish decent.

2. Applicant must have been accepted for entrance to Arts, Science or Applied Science

Course at the University.

3. Financial need to be taken into consideration in deciding among applicants.

4. If the recipient fails to maintain pass-standing he / she, at the discretion of the Scholarship Committee, may be required to forfeit the Scholarship.

THE HIGHLAND SOCIETY OF NEW BRUNSWICK AT MIRAMICHI

JOHN CROSBIE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP & LEN ROBERTSON SCHOLARSHIP

VALUE: $3500.

TERM: One (1) year.

CRITERIA: 1. Must be a member or a son or daughter of a member in good standing of the Highland

Society of New Brunswick at Miramichi.

2. Must be attending a first-year program at a recognized Canadian University.

3. Financial need to be a consideration in deciding among applicants.

4. One-half amount payable in the fall; second half on proof of satisfactory first-term

results.

EDUCATIONAL GRANTS

VALUE: $2500

TERM: One (1) year. (Candidates may re-apply annually)

CRITERIA: 1. Relatives of members of Highland Society of N.B. at Miramichi in good standing,

(sons, daughters, grandchildren, nephews, nieces).

2. Must be planning to attend an institution providing post-secondary education.

3. Financial need to be a consideration in deciding among applicants.

All applications for Scholarships or Educational Grants must be accompanied by:

1. Letter of acceptance

2. Transcript of your marks from your school or university

3. Two (2) letters of reference

4. Recent photo suitable for publication

Aloysius Mullin Bursary - Amount $500

Priority will be given to those who meet the following criteria:

Criteria: A student from NSER who has been admitted into a Civil or Environmental Technology program in the fall or who has a parent in good standing with the New Brunswick Union. If there is no student meeting these criteria, a deserving recipient will be chosen by the family.
