Home Learning

Hello Grade 11’s.  I hope everyone is doing well during our time apart.  I certainly miss each of you and want you to know if you need anything please feel free to email me anytime. ( dax.silliker@nbed.nb.ca )

Home learning is something we have never experienced before but I’m sure we can do it together.  The situation is ever evolving.  This changes daily but we do have some direction on what should be taking place at different grade levels.  Grade 11 and 12 students should be working for three (3) hours per week, per course so for us that means three hours for History and three for English.

At this point I will be posting home learning opportunities for you to work on each week via my teacher page on Mondays. I will have separate posts for the 112’s and 113’s but each weekly post will have both History and English.  I may also throw in some additional supports from time to time as well.

This is not going to be the same as being in school for sure.  For example, 112’s, we will not be doing the personalized learning plan as outlined on Office 365 (in fact I have taken units off the teams page).  113’s, we will not be finishing our 20% project.  I am really saddened not being able to do these new adventures in student learning however school closures were something we certainly did not see coming.  I felt both groups were starting to really buy in to this new approach and I was excited to see what you were creating to showcase what you were learning in each unit.

At this point, home learning is to be a one-way scenario in which assessment of student work is not taking place.  Opportunities are being provided by teachers for students to explore some material we would have had in our respective courses.  Please understand this is not as intensive as what would have occurred if we were together each day but it will let you continue with your studies for your second last year of school.  As I end, please know that we are thinking of you all during this time and cannot wait until we get to be back together again in our classroom.
