Outdoor Pursuits Class

The NSER Outdoor Pursuits 110 class would like to thank the Miramichi Salmon Association for their continued support of the New Brunswick High School Provincial Fly Fishing Fair.  The year marked the 2nd annual event which hosted Blackville High, Hampton High, St. John High, Miramichi Valley High, and NB Central Academy.    NSER would like to thank the following individuals for their support this year.  Mark Hambrook, Debbie Norton and the MSA for the amazing barbeque lunch provided for free to the 80 plus students and supervisors.  This generous group also provided three Redington Rod/Reel/Line outfits and 4 Fly boxes filled with beautiful Atlantic Salmon flies for competition/door prizes.  Thank you to Steve Smith from the Miramichi Fly Fishing School for giving our participants some great lessons in the art of casting.  thanks to Vince Sweezy, Cathy Colford, Graydon Curtis, Alex Parker, and Officer Kendal Strurgeon for some very informative sessions on fly tying, career possibilities, current scientific research and conservation/regulations.     Also a huge thanks goes to Brett Silliker, Bill Buffington (Florida) , Kiran Baker (London, England), Steve Toning (Fredericton), Nola Chaisson, and Barb Hambrook for volunteering in a number of different roles.   This day simply would not be possible without the support of the above individuals and the groups they are associated with.  The MSA fish hatchery is the perfect location for our event and hopefully this annual fair will occur there for many more years to come.  Our biggest goal is to expose students to this wonderful pastime and hopefully we've "hooked" some new fisherman and woman.  "Thank you" just does not do justice to the appreciation we at NSER feel for all those who have helped us host this great event and we look forward to working with you next year!
