The Seafarers’ Training Institute with partners in the shipping industry, including the Seafarers’ International Union of Canada, has launched a national hiring initiative to bring on board the next generation of Canadian seafarers. As part of the initiative, STI is looking to connect with high schools, to create awareness about a career as a seafarer. STI would like to speak in careers classes, trade related classes (auto, woodworking) or participate in any college events the high schools might be holding.

As a seafarer, or more commonly known as sailor, new recruits can expect stability, adventure and pride. The career offers high earning potential, free training with room and board, a pension, benefits and a variety of jobs to pick from. These are just a few of the perks seafarers enjoy.
